Mandatory Clear Garbage Bags – Starting July 15, 2021

Clear garbage bags have been required in the Township of Carling since 2008. Starting July 15, 2021 the use of clear bags will be fully enforced at the Township’s waste sites. This regulation was passed by the Township of Carling Council via By-law 2008-05 and was a Stewardship Ontario initiative.

Waste Site Locations

The Township of Carling has two transfer stations, the Carling Transfer Station located on West Carling Bay Road and the Killbear Transfer Station located on Hwy 559. The hours of the waste site transfer stations change throughout the year so please check the Transfer Station Schedule ahead of time. Both of our sites are staffed at all times. The Transfer Station Attendants will be checking to ensure that you have your municipal permits and that you are disposing of your garbage correctly.

Both the Carling and the Killbear Waste Sites will be closed on Saturday November 11, 2023 for Remembrance Day.

Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Sunday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Holiday Hours 

Closed all holidays except Labour Day 

Open Labour Day – Sunday Hours Apply 

Reduced hours over Christmas Holidays at both Killbear & Carling waste sites. Christmas hours will be posted each year prior to the holidays,

Waste Management Services for the Township of Carling

The Township of Carling Waste Transfer Sites are under the following restrictions:

CARLING TRANSFER SITE

  • Items permitted are household waste, recyclables and electronics.
  • Items not permitted at this time are bottle returns.

KILLBEAR LANDFILL SITE

  • Items permitted are household waste, recyclables, scrap steel, brush, electronics, bulky items, construction waste and shingles.
  • Items not permitted at this time are bottle returns and the reuse centre.

RESTRICTIONS FOR BOTH SITES

  • Transfer Site Attendants are not permitted to assist with removal of waste or assist with depositing waste into bins.
  • Users are not permitted to enter the Attendant’s building at any time.
  • Users are required to enter the site, deposit their waste and leave the site.
  • Users are not permitted to socially speak with the attendant. Waste Site Attendants are not permitted to socially speak with individuals using the site.
  • Please note, hours of operation will remain the same for both site.

Road maintenance and scheduled road construction will not be interrupted at this time.

At this site you can dispose of household waste and alcohol bottle returns (Funds go towards the Township Recreation Activities).

GET DIRECTIONS

At this site you can dispose of household waste, electronic waste, clean wood waste, shingles , bulky items, scrap metal and alcohol bottle returns (Funds go towards the Township Recreation Activities).

Some items require a fee to dispose of. All items with the exception of shingles can be paid for at the Killbear Transfer Station using either cash or cheque (We do not accept debit or credit cards at the Transfer Station locations). See the list below for costs. A shingles voucher must be purchased in advance at the municipal office and presented to the Transfer Station Attendant before shingles can be deposited.

  • Bulky Items – $10.00
    • Examples –Furniture, vacuum cleaners, toilets, sinks, patio furniture
  • Clean Wood Waste -$25.00 (Single axle trailer or half-ton truck)
  • Shingles – $10.00/Bundle
    • Voucher must be purchased in advance at the Municipal Office

WE DO NOT TAKE ANY FIBERGLASS MATERIALS

Reuse centre is open during the Summer Waste Site Schedule and closed during the Winter Schedule.

GET DIRECTIONS

 The Township of Carling does not accept household hazardous waste at either of our waste sites. If you have items to be disposed of please take them to the Parry Sound Waste Site located at the end of McFarland Street in Parry Sound. Please show them your Carling Municipal Permit. You are only permitted to dispose of your Hazardous Material at this site. Visit the Town of Parry Sound Website or give them a call at 705-746-2101 for their waste site hours.

Recycling Information

In the Township of Carling we have a commingled recycling system. This means that we separate our paper products from our plastic products. If you are unsure of where an item goes please ask the Waste Site Attendant for assistance. Please do not place plastic garbage bags into the compactor, they cannot be recycled.
